Since joining Mount Saint Mary’s University in July 2025, Adam G. Weyhaupt, PhD, has brought a leadership style grounded in collaboration, intentional design and a deep confidence in the power of education to create positive change.
As provost and senior vice president of Academic Affairs, he oversees the University’s academic programs and works closely with faculty, staff and students to advance a shared vision for the Mount’s future.
At the heart of Dr. Weyhaupt’s approach is what he describes as “radical hope”— a belief that higher education can equip students not only for careers, but for meaningful lives. “Every time I talk with a Mount student who is passionate about making a difference,” he says, “I think, the world is going to be fine because they are in it.”
Since his arrival, he has led with thoughtful planning and interdisciplinary collaboration to strengthen academic pathways and drive future program growth. Central to that work is a commitment to partnership and trust. “Faculty and administration co-construct the university experience,” he says. “When we harness the creativity and problem-solving spirit of this community, just as our founders did, we are better equipped to respond to the needs of our time.”
One main initiative he is working on is (M)POWER, the University’s new four-year career readiness program. His office leads the (M)POWER Implementation Committee, guiding a campus-wide effort to bring the program to life. “(M)POWER allows us to be intentional,” he explains. “It ensures every student has access to a transformative Mount experience while also giving faculty space to innovate and collaborate across disciplines.”
A cornerstone of (M)POWER is the redesigned First-Year Seminar, which provides new opportunities for students to explore their purpose and career options at the beginning of their academic journeys. For Dr. Weyhaupt, the seminar represents a powerful moment of connection between students and faculty. “It gives students agency at a critical time,” he explains. “They are not just being introduced to college; they are starting to design an educational experience that reflects who they are and who they want to become.”
Dr. Weyhaupt came to the Mount from Fontbonne University in St. Louis, where he served as provost and executive vice president. He holds bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and computer science from Eastern Illinois University and a PhD in mathematics from Indiana University. Today, he brings that analytical foundation together with a collaborative, student-centered approach to academic leadership.
