Fontbonne Scholarship Society

For donors who have established an endowed or expendable scholarship or have contributed a meaningful amount to an existing scholarship at the Mount.

The Fontbonne Scholarship Society is named in honor of Mother Saint John Fontbonne, whose courage and leadership helped restore the Sisters of St. Joseph following the devastation of the French Revolution. Through her faith, perseverance, and commitment to education and service, she helped renew a mission centered on caring for others and expanding access to opportunity.

Inspired by her legacy, the Fontbonne Scholarship Society recognizes donors who invest in scholarships and student success at Mount Saint Mary’s University. Like Mother Saint John Fontbonne, members of the Society help create pathways to education, empowering students to grow as compassionate leaders prepared to serve their communities and the world.

Scholarships

Endowed scholarships at the Mount start at $50,000. The pledge may be fulfilled over five years, and the scholarship is disbursed after the completed gift has been fully vested in the endowment for one full fiscal year.

  • Scholarship naming in perpetuity by the donor through a binding gift agreement with the University
  • Recognition on the University’s Scholarship Wall at the Chalon campus
  • Invitation to the annual President’s Donor Appreciation Luncheon
  • Annual scholarship report, including endowment information and student biography

Expendable scholarships of at least $5,000 fulfilled within one year may be named by the donor. The University will distribute the funds to qualified students within the same year. Donors will receive a one-time scholarship report that will include disbursement information and the biography of the scholarship recipient. Donors are invited to meet the recipient at the annual President’s Donor Appreciation Luncheon.

Scholarship support can make a critical difference in a student’s college career. Talented students sometimes experience extraordinary odds that require additional resources in a timely fashion. Your support will provide students with critical aid throughout the academic year. Donors who make gifts of $5,000 or more within one year will be recognized as members of the Fontbonne Scholarship Society and will receive an annual report and invitation to the President’s Donor Appreciation Luncheon.
